Description of Works: |
This 7,500-square-metre warehouse roof was refurbished and prepared before 1,750 new photovoltaic panels, a new electrical distribution board, and EV charging points were installed. The building was very close to Heathrow Airport and directly on one of the main flight paths creating some challenges when craning materials onto the roof. |

This project involved refurbishing and preparing the roof of a 7,500-square-metre warehouse to receive a new solar panel system. It is located near Heathrow Airport, directly below one of the main flight paths.
Before the new panels were installed, the roof was cleaned, the end laps were treated, and the metal sheeting was coated with a high-performance coating system. The old roof lights were replaced, and the gutters lined.
The mounting system for the new solar panels was fixed and weathered, and 1,750 new panels were installed at roof level and connected to a new main distribution board.
New EV chargers were installed in the car park below, and a new safety line system was fixed to the roof to protect operatives undertaking future maintenance and repairs.
Our management team had to liaise directly with Heathrow Airport and air traffic control to coordinate overnight crane lifts, as the roof was directly below the flight path for planes landing at Heathrow. This meant that lifts could only be conducted overnight between 10:00 pm and 4:00 am when clearance was granted.
